Tip your trainers please…
When you find a trainer that fits you…stick with them and they’ll grow with you, and stay with them forever. Health and Fitness is a journey for life!! NOT periodically…you have to take care of yourself forever! A lot of people do not know the market for trainers. Good experienced trainers are charging anywhere from $90- $125/ hour…give or take depending on what you and your trainer agreed. Remember we are in the field of changing lives! We are here to prevent you from seeing the doctor too much and/or worse, developing a preferred membership to the food and drug administration aka the pharmacy and filing your body with foreign drugs/chemicals.
That transition from high school to college when you have to pick out what you’re going to do for the rest of your life and young adults say I want to be in the fitness industry…I want to train people, I want to change lives. They go to school for kinesiology and or physiology, graduate and get a job at a gym (preferably a luxury gym), what they learned and all their dedication has gone out the window. The reality is…it has become a sales gig. What they did not learn in college. People could be amazing trainers and not very good at making people understand or convince them, how much they need a trainer. As well as you can suck as a trainer and be a good sales man and sell some BS. I feel like the quality of a true well thought out fitness regimen, subconsciously, inevitably…. slowly goes out the window, because sales and meeting their quota takes precedence.
When I first wanted to train people…the reaction I was getting was not to welcoming. People automatically remembered an experience being at a gym and someone coming up to them with a sales pitch. It’s unfortunate that it has to go to that and super uncomfortable. I want people to realize establishing yourself in the fitness world is extremely difficult, and very competitive. Many times when trainers are approaching you it’s because you’re doing something that looks hideous and accident prone…and this is their opportunity to help you, plus their GM and Director are constantly putting pressure on them to make sales.
This is our career, how we live how we pay rent…don’t be cheap and try to get freebees. You say you had and amazing trainer? They were so amazing and knowledgeable, great at motivating you and you want to jip them on their fair pay, shame on you! Especially if it’s a private studio and we have to pay rent for you to be there?!
Now I will go and try to figure out how I can make national trainers day…have a good one…cheers
